Le cyclo-tour Ecotopia est un tour à vélo autogéré organisé depuis 1990 chaque année par un collectif international à travers l’Europe. Pendant le cyclo-tour, nous visitons des projets et lieux qui s’attaquent aux problemes environnementaux et sociaux, et pratiquent du militantisme/activisme et/ou des formes de vie respectueuse de l’environnement. Le tour est vegan, les décisions se font au consensus et nous souhaitons autant que possible organiser des ateliers de transmissions. Le cyclo-tour Ecotopia s’adresse à quiconque est interessé.e par l’idée de voyager à vélo, vivre en communauté, bricoler/DIY, se poser des questions environnementales et apprendre par l’expérience. Online Tools

We try to use free and open-source software as much as possible in the preparation process. The same goes for sharing photos and videos in the group.

On the road

Everyone should be able to cycle with the Biketour. Therefore we keep distances low and have scouts going ahead who mark the route. Everyone can follow the signs on their own level of speed. Any tasks like scouting, cooking or pulling a trailer are shared.

Food

All communal food on Biketour is vegan and cooked with wood on our mobile rocket stove.
Whenever it’s possible we go dumpster-diving and buy food from local farmers and small shops.

Story behind, problems, critique 2 years ago we decided to put some keywords on the poster and the flyers to describe the biketour in a short way. We put amongst others as well « Queer » because we felt like it is a significant part of our community – that we are explicitly not only Cis*-hetero-people and that we are opposing heteronormative* society norms. We received critique from members of the queer community, who experienced homophobia on Ecotopia Biketour 2015. I am very set up when i read queer on that poster!!! I think it is a lie. It’s often useful to have plenty of loading options on your bike. So when you find loads of food in the dumpsters for example, you can easily take some and be a bit independent from trailers. It is actually pretty easy to attach a rear rack to the front of your bike. Rear racks can be very easily found in any bike kitchen. I participated in Ecotopia Biketour this year again. As always, I try to capture some nice moments with pen and paper. It is kind of difficult to find time and space for that within all the cycling, cooking, camping, projects, nice new people or group organising processes. This is the first go of the rocketstove we built in the first days in Strasbourg.
